Accreditation of certification bodies and other conformity assessment bodies (CABs)

Accreditation of certification bodies is managed by the Swiss Accreditation Service SAS, a department of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

The SAS handles the assessment and accreditation of certification bodies and also of other conformity assessment bodies (CABs), such as test and calibration laboratories, inspection agencies, benchmark materials producers and aptitude test organizers.

In administrative terms, the SAS is attached to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) as a GMEB unit. However, in accordance with the national and international directives currently in force, it makes decisions autonomously and at its absolute discretion on accreditation matters.
