When you recruit staff, it is worthwhile asking applicants for references from their former employers. A reference is a good indicator.
Obtaining information from the applicant’s former employer may help with the final choice. However, it is not allowed to inquire about a person without his/her prior consent. Ask the applicant if it is possible to contact former employers especially if he/she mentioned them as references.
When you contact former employers, ask targeted questions about the applicant’s work, service and conduct and strengths and weaknesses.
