The importance of a positive reference

When you recruit staff, it is worthwhile asking applicants for references from their former employers. A reference is a good indicator.

Information from former employers represents additional help with your final choice. However, you can only request these references with the applicant’s consent. To be sure, also ask applicants who have given addresses for references. When you contact former employers, ask targeted questions about the applicant’s work, service and conduct and strengths and weaknesses.
