(02.07.2025) Switzerland’s economy has risen by one position in the global ranking of the world’s most competitive countries. For the first time since 2021, the Confederation once again tops the World Competitiveness Ranking published by the IMD Business School in Lausanne, ahead of Singapore and Hong Kong.

Since 1989, the Lausanne-based institute has assessed the competitiveness of dozens of economies each year, ranking them across four criteria: economic performance, business efficiency, government efficiency, and infrastructure. In 2025, a total of 69 countries and regions were evaluated.

Switzerland continues to benefit from the efficiency of its public policies (1st) and the quality of its infrastructure (1st). While it has led in both these categories for several consecutive years, the country saw a slight decline in business efficiency (6th / -1 place). It also continues to face challenges in economic performance (13th / -1 place). Overall, however, Switzerland has outperformed its results from the past three years (2nd in 2022, 3rd in 2023, and 2nd in 2024).

In second place, Singapore shines with excellent economic performance (1st / +2 places). The city-state remains on the podium for government efficiency (3rd / -1 place) but drops six places in business efficiency (8th) and two places in infrastructure (6th). Hong Kong, meanwhile, improved across all four categories and secured third place among the world’s most competitive economies (+2 places).

Denmark (-1 place) and the United Arab Emirates (+2 places) complete the top five, followed by Taiwan, Ireland, and Sweden. At the bottom of the list are Nigeria, Namibia, and Venezuela, which occupy the final three spots.
