(09.11.2022) More and more consumers are considering taking advantage of discounts offered on Singles’ Day and Black Friday. According to a survey by the Swiss Retail Federation, nearly half of them are now more attentive to promotions because of rising prices.

A survey of 4,000 people conducted by the Swiss Retail Federation reveals that between 35% and 40% of consumers have reduced their purchases of non-grocery products.

At the same time, 89% of respondents said they intend to take advantage of the discounts offered on Singles’ Day (November 11) and Black Friday (November 25). The spending amounts are expected to be higher than last year, with an average shopping cart of CHF 343 on Singles’ Day and as much as CHF 427 on Black Friday. Nevertheless, consumers are more focused on their spending and limit spontaneous purchases: 23% of them plan to stick to a list and 30% set a maximum budget.

Fashion items such as clothing, shoes and accessories are the most popular items on these promotional days, with more than two-thirds of consumers (68%) interested in them, while just over half plan to purchase electronics (53%).

These purchases are likely to be made both in-store and online. More than half of those surveyed said they intend to shop both in-store and online, with 30% planning to shop exclusively in-store and 20% only online.
