Swiss job market hits new record high

(18.05.2022) The Swiss labor market remains strong. The Swiss Job Market Index, published by the Adecco Group and the University of Zurich, has reached a new milestone with a 47% year-on-year increase, and a 7% increase over the last quarter of 2021.

The index is at a record high for the second consecutive time, due in part to the post-pandemic economic recovery that all sectors are experiencing. The economy is expected to benefit job seekers, particularly those with information and communication technology (ICT) skills.

Such digital skills are increasingly valued by employers, 49 percent of whom specify at least one of these skills, while many others require several at the same time. The most coveted are core skills (31%), content management (23%), network, system and data management (19%), digital business management (18%), software development (16%), and industry-specific ICT (16%).

However, the requirements are not the same for all professional groups. Apart from those requiring a university degree in computer science, it is in the field of technology specialists that ICT skills are most in demand, with 66% of job offers specifying such skills, as do office and administrative positions (65%). Jobs requiring a university degree in natural sciences (63%) and economics (60%) complete the top rankings.

Healthcare, service and sales, and construction industries are still somewhat immune to the trend, however, with demand for digital capabilities ranging from 16 to 24 percent. Again, the pandemic has played a key role in pushing companies in many sectors to strengthen their digital skills.
