(30.03.2022) February was a very good month for the watch industry. The value of exports rose by 24.4% year-on-year to almost CHF 2 billion, according to statistics from the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (FH). This increase was driven by most markets.

Swiss watchmakers have recorded their best February in history. With an increase of 15.2% in the number of watches sold, the industry also recorded growth in all groups of materials. The highest increase in the number of pieces sold was in "other materials" (+38%), followed by bimetallic (+32%), precious metal (+31%), other metals (+13%) and steel (+8%) models.

In terms of price ranges, watches costing more than CHF 3,000 were the best sellers, with a 28.3% increase in value. The increase is also significant for the price range between CHF 500 and CHF 3'000 (+16.4%). Although products under CHF 500 rose the most in terms of number of pieces (12.9%), their export value increased by only 4.8%.

All major markets for Swiss watchmakers show double-digit growth. The United States and China continued their positive momentum of January with export values up 33.2% and 22.4% respectively. Europe recorded an increase of 28.4%, thanks in particular to strong performances in Germany (+37.3%), Spain (54.1%) and the United Kingdom (+24.8%). In Asia, Saudi Arabia suffered a decline (-11.8%) while Hong Kong was back on the growth track (+11.9%).
