(05.10.2022) Despite the end of the health crisis, companies are continuing to fail to pay their suppliers on time. According to a study by consulting firm Dun & Bradstreet, in the first half of 2022, 19% of B2B invoices were still late in being settled.

The survey, which analyzed more than 1 million business-to-business (B2B) invoices each month, showed that late payments were slightly less frequent than in the first half of 2021 (19.7 percent, up 0.7 points) and 2020 (21.8 percent, up 2.8 points).

Although the occurrence of late payments is less frequent than in previous years, the average payment duration has increased. In the first half of 2022, the average delay was 14.8 days, which is slightly higher than for the same period in 2021 (13.2 days) and 2020 (14.5 days).

Basel-Stadt is the most affected canton with 38.8% of invoices paid late, although it has seen the biggest improvement year-on-year (-14.1 points). This is followed by Ticino (26.8%), Zug (26.7%), Schaffhausen (25.4%) and Vaud (20.5%). Appenzell Innerrhoden (9%), Obwalden (9.2%) and Uri (10.5%) remain the three cantons where companies are the most disciplined in terms of B2B payments.

The study shows an equally large disparity between various business sectors: retail (35.7%), automotive (32.1%), printing and publishing (31.3%) and hotels (31.3%) are particularly affected by the problem, while handicrafts (9.7%), mining (10%) and finance and insurance (10.4%) are the least affected.
