(04.09.2024) Swiss employees are starting to adapt to the new demands of the job market. Over three-quarters (79%) of them express a willingness to acquire new skills, especially in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), according to PwC's 2024 survey on hopes and fears.
The majority of respondents (75%) are eager to develop their skills and advance professionally. Moreover, one-third anticipate significant changes in the skills needed for their jobs within the next five years.
However, less than two-thirds (61%) of employees surveyed in Switzerland believe that the ongoing changes will positively impact their company. Many employees see these changes as both opportunities and sources of uncertainty. For 57% of respondents, the work environment has experienced too much upheaval in recent years, and half of them are skeptical about the benefits of these changes.
For half of the 1,000 respondents, digital transformation is the primary driver of these changes. More than 50% of workers now engage in remote work, either fully or partially, and over one in five employees use generative artificial intelligence (AI) daily in their jobs.
Despite this, the PwC report highlights that many employees are dealing with an increased workload. Some also voiced concerns about financial insecurity due to unsatisfactory compensation. "It's essential for leaders to prioritize well-being as a core value and a critical performance factor," says Tobias Sattler, CEO of PwC Switzerland.
Over two-thirds (69%) of surveyed employees believe they could easily find a new job, and more than a third (38%) are considering changing employers within the next 12 months.
