
(09.08.2023) In nominal figures, investments in construction increased by 1.8% in 2022. According to the provisional results from the Federal Statistical Office (OFS), expenses in building construction rose by 2.3% and declined by 0.1% in civil engineering.
However, due to the rise in prices, real investments in construction, which also include public maintenance works, experienced a decline of 5.9% year-on-year (between 2021 and 2022).
In nominal figures, though, expenses in new constructions increased by 0.3%, but it was the transformation works that recorded the most significant surge (+4.2%), especially in the context of private projects (+7.2%).
Simultaneously, public investments, generated by the Confederation, cantons, or municipalities, in new constructions saw a slight increase (+0.3%), while those allocated to transformation projects experienced a very slight decline (-0.1%). Expenses in the maintenance of public infrastructures also decreased by 1.4%.
Overall, the building sector benefited from an increase in year-on-year investments (+2.3%). The rise was slightly more significant in private projects (+2.4%) than in public projects (+1.3%).
Investments in civil engineering experienced a decline year-on-year (-0.1%) between 2021 and 2022. Similarly, expenses in public infrastructure works decreased (-0.9%), while those directed towards private projects strengthened (+3.2%).
