PostFinance launches secure electronic signature

(03.05.2023) A new system for almost instantaneous authentication of an electronic signature is being introduced in Switzerland. In collaboration with Swisscom and Swiss Post, PostFinance is launching Bankident. The aim is to simplify the usual identity verification procedures for contracts.

With this solution, users can now conclude a service contract much more quickly, without having to go to a post office counter or make a video call. Launched in April, the service is available to anyone with a PostFinance account and access to e-finance, the bank's online service.

Once the person's identity is confirmed during the account opening process, authentication occurs automatically through the PostFinance application. To activate this feature, the user must provide explicit consent with a unique opt-in.

The service has been developed in collaboration with Swisscom Trust Services, a certified service provider whose mission is to ensure that "all requirements set forth by the Federal Act on Electronic Signatures (ESigA) are met".

PostFinance is also working on integrating SwissSign – the electronic signature solution of its parent company, La Poste – into the PostFinance application by the end of the year. This development will allow customers to order credit cards directly online without the need for a third-party application.
