(01.06.2022) For the younger generation, the most important aspect of a job search is the company atmosphere. According to a study in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria by the consulting firm EY, more than 60% of 18-40-year-olds in these countries are concerned about this.
In Switzerland, this trend is stronger among women. Seventy-eight percent of women regard this as a priority, compared to 62 percent of men. The situation is similar in Germany and Austria, where 64% and 80% of women and 53% and 64% of men respectively indicate the same preference for a good workplace environment.
Other important factors for women include work/life balance (63%), interest in the tasks associated with the job (58%), and flexible work models, including the ability to work from home (46%). Only 45% of them consider salary to be a decisive factor.
For men, the issue of remuneration comes third (53%), just after being able to perform interesting tasks (56%). Work-life balance comes fourth (51%) and flexible work models fifth (41%).
However, when asked which factors were most important in choosing their present job, quality of work environment is still ranked first for women (36%) but drops to second place (32%) for men. For men, salary is the most important factor (34%), while for women it is second (32%).
Furthermore, 55% of respondents, regardless of gender, say they are open to new employment, while 21% are actively looking for work. Again, low pay is the primary source of dissatisfaction (28%).
