AI is becoming widespread in Swiss companies

(15.07.2026) Artificial intelligence is becoming a standard workplace tool across Swiss companies. According to an EY survey of 604 employees, 89% use AI solutions on a daily basis.
AI tools are now widely used across companies, although the maturity of their implementation varies considerably. According to respondents, more than half (55%) of companies have deployed AI strategically in one or more business areas. However, nearly a third (31%) are still in the pilot phase, while 14% have not yet launched any concrete initiatives. So far, only a small minority (9%) report that AI has transformed their business model.
The main barriers to integrating AI into business processes include data quality and data silos (20%), security and data protection concerns (19%), and a shortage of qualified personnel (18%).
Integrated solutions such as Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini are the most widely used tools, with 70% of employees using them. Nearly one third (29%) of respondents are permitted to use AI through their personal accounts, for example, on ChatGPT. Only 3% of respondents say that the use of AI is currently completely prohibited within their company.
The impact on employment is mixed. Nearly one company in five (18%) has created new AI-related positions. Conversely, 11% of respondents say their company has chosen not to fill certain vacant positions, while 7% report that positions have been eliminated. Two out of five employees (42%) are not yet able to assess AI's impact on staffing levels.
Data sovereignty is a major concern for half (51%) of respondents. They believe AI systems must fully comply with Swiss or European data protection standards.
